Frequently asked questions

What is a virtual airline?+

A virtual airline (VA) is a community of flight simulator pilots who jointly simulate airline operations: with a real route network, its own fleet, ranks and shared events. Flying happens in the simulator – e.g. MSFS or X-Plane – on networks like VATSIM and IVAO, or offline.

Do I need experience or VATSIM knowledge?+

No. Many of us started offline. If you want to learn VATSIM or IVAO, we'll show you everything at your own pace – from your first radio call to your first group flight. There is no entrance exam.

Which flight simulator do I need?+

Whether Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020/2024), X-Plane or Prepar3D – all that matters is that you love flying. Our flights are tracked via FSAirlines, which works with all common simulators.

Does membership cost anything?+

No. AirWürttemberg is a non-commercial hobby project. Membership is and will remain free.

How does the application work?+

Your check-in takes less than three minutes: a short form, optionally link your Discord, submit. Your regional manager will then personally reach out for a relaxed chat on Discord – followed by onboarding with Terminal access and your first flight with the crew.

Do I have to be from southern Germany?+

Not at all! Our roots are in southern Germany, but we have divisions for all of Germany, Austria and International. Pilots from all over the world are welcome – community languages are German and English.
